AI search picks one local business. Here's how to be the one.
By Norman Wang ·
Ask ChatGPT “who’s the best pool builder near me” and look at the answer. It doesn’t show you ten results. It names one or two businesses and explains why.
That changes the game for local businesses. On a page of ten links, being number six still got some calls. In an AI answer, if you’re not named, you get nothing.
What the AI is looking at
AI assistants don’t invent their picks. They pull from what the web already says about a business:
- Your Google Business Profile. Categories, services, hours, photos, posts, and the details customers mention in reviews.
- Consistency. The same name, address and phone number on your website, directories and social profiles.
- Reviews and replies. How many reviews you have, how recent they are, what people say, and whether you respond.
- Activity. A profile that posted last week looks open for business. One that hasn’t changed since 2022 looks closed.
What to do this week
- Open your Google Business Profile and make sure every service you offer is listed.
- Reply to every review from the last 90 days, good or bad.
- Post one update with a real photo of a recent job.
- Search your business name and fix any listing with an old phone number or address.
None of this is complicated. It’s just easy to let it slide, and that’s exactly why I built Lead Oracle AI: it handles this work every day, so the profile stays active without anyone having to remember.
